Jolanda-Pieta (Joey) van Arnhem is a faculty member at the College of Charleston Libraries. As the Studio Librarian, she contributes her expertise by researching emerging technologies and providing instruction for faculty, staff, and students regarding information technology utilization and digital scholarship tools for research and classroom use. Prior to becoming library faculty, Ms. van Arnhem provided instructional design and technology support for faculty in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. She has lectured for the College of Charleston School of Humanities and Social Sciences, specializing in visual culture and ethnographic studies for the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. She has also lectured for the School of the Arts, teaching Introduction to Sculpture for the Studio Art Department as part of the First Year Experience program. As part of van Arnhem's library instructional duties she teaches an introductory three credit hour course on augmented and virtual reality for the First Year Experience program.

Since 2013, Ms. van Arnhem’s research has focused on the use of augmented and virtual reality in the classroom and its adoption in education and libraries. She has authored numerous articles and delivered keynotes, papers and workshops throughout the US on topics related to the scholarship of teaching and learning using this research. In 2018 van Arnhem co-edited Augmented and Virtual Libraries (A LITA Guide) with Christine Elliot and Marie Rose published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. Additionally, she co-authored six chapters with Jannette Finch in Framing Information Literacy: Teaching Grounded in Theory, Pedagogy, and Practice edited by Mary K. Oberlies and Janna Mattson published by ACRL Press (2018). Her most recent publications include co-authoring Building a Community of Inquiry around OER with Gretchen Scronce and Amanda Kraft (2000) in the International Journal of Open Educational Resources and co-authoring Keepin' it Real: AR, VR, and MR for Instruction and Learning with Elena Rodriquez (2021) in 32 Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality edited by E. Kroski. She also co-authored Discovering the Frames in One-Shot Sessions: Implications for Instruction with Jannette Finch and Mary Jo Fairchild in Envisioning the Framework: A Graphic Guide to Information Literacy edited by J. Finch, which is due out in September of 2021.

Ms. van Arnhem also works with the peer-reviewed publication The Charleston Advisor by contributing advisor reports from the field in her column “Mobile Apps in Libraries” and serving on the editorial board. She serves on the editorial board of Marketing Libraries Journal and on the SCCIL Conference planning committee as secretary.
