Indiana University Kokomo
Dean of the Library
Polly D. Boruff-Jones, MLS, MPA, is Dean of the Library at Indiana University Kokomo. Her professional and research interests are in the areas of information literacy, assessment in higher education, organizational leadership and personnel development. Throughout her academic library career, Polly has focused on engaging with students to understand their approach to research and information gathering and to ensure they have the information literacy skills they need to be successful in their academic and career pursuits. With an interest in mitigating the challenges of the high school to college transition, Polly especially enjoys working with students who are new to the college experience and she has taught freshman seminar courses at three universities. Current research projects include leading AASCU’s Digital Polarization Initiative on her campus and working with a team to develop "Mind over Chatter: Skills for Navigating the Post-Truth Era" focused on the role biases play in the spread of inaccurate information. The goal of these two projects is to create curricula that will prepare college students to recognize instances of misinformation and disinformation, to incorporate fact-checking strategies into their daily consumption of information and to improve the information environment when they discover something amiss. Polly also leads Affordable Textbook and Open Educational Resources initiatives on her campus and is coordinating with faculty from all Indiana University campuses to develop an Affordable Content strategy for the University.
